Since 2009, Building from Below was been dedicated to growing and supporting worker cooperatives- collectively owned local business- that create dignified work and living wages for member-owners.
Building from Below is dedicated to research, education, and practical experimentation to support the creation of sustainable, self-determining communities. Our work is based on an organic farm and learning center where we build our vision for a democratic, egalitarian, and sustainable society by investigating the shifting social and ecological landscape and developing practicable alternative forms of organization such as worker cooperatives, agro-ecological cooperative farming, and youth educational programming.
Seedbed Community Farm
Our cooperatively-run farm grows thousands of pounds of fresh, organic produce using regenerative practices across 100 acres in Mebane, North Carolina. By working together, we rebuild our relationships to each other and the land.
